Visit an old mine in the Haut-Rhin region

Less than 15 minutes from the Best Western Plus Au Cheval Blanc, discover the Carreau Rodolphe in Pulversheim. The Carreau Rodolphe is one of the former potash mines located north of Mulhouse and operated from 1910 to 2002 by the Société des Mines de Potasse d'Alsace.

With 24 shafts and covering an area of 222km², these mines were one of the most prosperous industries in Alsace. The Carreau Rodolphe is part of one of these mines, it has two different shafts, which are now closed.

A visit by former miners

A visit to this mine plunges you into history and lets you discover the lives of the men who worked there. The visit is led by former miners, members of the Rodolphe Group association. This association is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the Carreau Rodolphe for educational purposes.

An experience that is both fascinating and gripping

The Carreau Rodolphe is the only mine in the region whose buildings have been preserved, all the others have been demolished. Through this visit, the former miner will introduce you to his daily work in the mine.

Even though the miners were proud of their work, even though they enjoyed certain social benefits and even though they were in solidarity with each other, it was an extremely difficult and dangerous job. Imagine them working in a mine where it was about 50 degrees, almost 1000 metres underground.

Count about 2h30 to visit the Carreau Rodolphe. This visit allows you to enter the buildings, to look at the engines, to admire the reconstructions, to listen to the explanations on the exploitation of potash...

A visit not to be missed in this place which has lived, which has been abandoned and which is slowly being brought back to life thanks to the patience and efforts of the association's volunteers.
